Century Memorial
Percy McElrath was a son of Thomas McElrath, one of the earlier members of The Century, elected in 1855, when the Club was still in its rooms on Broadway [sic: 24 Clinton Place, now 46 East 8th Street]. The younger McElrath was graduated from the College of the City of New York, and a lawyer by profession. He had a remarkable aptitude as a linguist, and was under two different administrations Consul of the United States at Turin, Italy. His death was peculiarly sad, as he had returned to his native country in confidence that the air of Colorado would restore his shattered health; but he survived only a few hours his arrival at Colorado Springs.
