Nelson Glenn McCrea. [Born] 1863. Professor, author. For 56 years teacher of Latin at Columbia, professor since 1903; prominent in his university’s affairs; Chairman of the Council on Research in the Humanities; long active in Phi Beta Kappa and in the College Entrance Examination Board; author of a volume of addresses “Literature and Liberalism,” recording his devotion to the classical ideals; exact scholar, inspiring teacher, loved by all who knew him.
