Archivist’s Notes

Father of Charles Baskerville

Century Memorial

The Century’s cheerful afternoon or evening gatherings will long hold in remembrance the robust presence, personal charm and joyous quality of companionship which always characterized Charles Baskerville. He was one of the men whose smiling arrival in a group always seemed to complete the circle. Intimate friends recall not only his personal loyalty and his fulfilment, without counting the cost, of every social and personal obligation, but the quick temper which he held in check through resolute discipline, even when his face would flush. The Club saw only the genial companion. To chemical instruction and investigation Baskerville was a notable contributor; described by his associates of the International Association of Chemistry as “sound in scholarship, prolific in invention, a gifted teacher and an enduring source of inspiration to his students.”
