Century Memorial
Gordon Macdonald was born and educated among our neighbors of the North. But he came to New York at fifteen and was thenceforth identified with its life. He died untimely at fifty-two and had been a member of The Century for thirteen years. From the outset of his mercantile career he showed his sterling character, and step by step he advanced in the confidence of the financial world until he had reached almost the climax of his ambition. Prudent, enterprising, polished in manners, an amateur of the fine arts and literature, he won success in both business and society. His friendships were select, and in them his loyalty was unquestioned. Fortitude under trial, patience, sympathy, quickness of perception, helpfulness, these were the qualities which endeared him to so many here and elsewhere.
