Russell Loines was a man who gathered about him many affectionate friends. Too modest and self-effacing to seek for or even submit to publicity, he was a writer of verse which pleased the reader and he was a tireless helper of good causes and unlucky friends. A useful participant in the field of maritime insurance, it was the striking comment of an old friend that he had the unusual ability of “sifting out non-essentials and injecting human interest into subjects which are ordinarily as dry as dust.”
