Richard Hoe Lawrence, like many other Wall Street bankers, was in reality more interested in his avocations than in his professional occupation. Partner during many years in a well-known Stock Exchange house, he was a collector of Oriental art, a good authority on the history both of early Rome and of early New York City, a well-informed coin collector and an expert photographer. His older-time associates will remember him for his remarkable photographic pictures, prepared four decades ago, for a special edition of Washington Irving’s “Alhambra.”
