Century Memorial

The life of Henry Lane Kendrick was that of a faithful soldier wholly devoted to his country, serving it in many capacities and over its wide area.

Born in New Hampshire in 1811, he graduated at the Military Academy in 1836, where he remained as an instructor until the Mexican War, in which he served with distinction, and won merited promotion.

Frontier and exploring duty followed, including expeditions against the Indians, and the commanding of border forts.

He was at the Military Academy as Professor of Chemistry, Mineralogy and Geology from 1857 until 1880, when he was retired at his own request having served forty-five years. At the last, like an old soldier, he wrapped his mantle round him and died at his Club, having deserved well of his country.
