Century Memorial
Joseph Coerten Hornblower, an architect of refined taste and a resident of the Federal capital, had been one of our members for only two years when he died at the age of sixty. He was of a famous family, native to this district, where he was well known for his sound education and liberal sympathies. He was a graduate of Yale and received his professional training in Europe. His work was distinguished and received generous recognition from his fellows and the public. Among his most important designs are those for the Baltimore Custom House and the National Museum. His society was delightful. He belonged to three important clubs in Washington and as many here. The circle of his friends was wide and his suggestive talk was everywhere appreciated.
