Century Memorial
Graduating with high honors from Amherst College, Henry Root Goodnow occupied the chair of mathematics at his Alma Mater until his retirement from active pursuits. Not perhaps widely acquainted among his fellow-Centurions, those who knew him recognized his culture, scholarly tastes and high ideals. His adventure, years ago, in losing his way for thirty hours without food in the White Mountain forests, was long a tradition of that region.
