Amos F. Eno, an officer in the Civil War, the outbreak of which forced his firm into bankruptcy. Many years later he freely and unexpectedly paid off his firm’s creditors in full; for his honor recognized neither discharges in bankruptcy nor statutes of limitation. He inherited from his father large holdings of real estate, which he increased by good management, and an interest in the New York Sun. He was himself a collector of prints of old New York.
