Ira Davenport was a man of large wealth, public spirit, and a keen interest in public affairs. He was a resident of Bath, N. Y., was for two terms a member of the State Senate, for two terms Comptroller of the State of New York, and afterwards a member of Congress. In all these positions his unselfish devotion to duty and his efficiency won for him the cordial respect of all who knew him.
