Century Memorial

Descendant of a distinguished line, James Fenimore Cooper became one of the leading lawyers of Albany and a banker of note. He was the author of several books on the history and legends of Cooperstown, Otsego County, which was established by his family and which was the scene of one of his grandfather’s most famous stories, “The Deerslayer.” The rehabilitation of the Schuyler Mansion, now owned by the State, was one of his particular interests. He edited and published the correspondence of his grandfather.
