Century Memorial

Samuel Thorne was a man of gentle temper and shrewd sense. A man of wealth, he busied himself successfully in model farming and the breeding of shorthorn cattle on his estate near Milbrook. He was also influential in finance, as a director of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy and the Great Northern Railway Companies, the Bank of America, and other monied institutions.
