A. Alexander Smith, a true-hearted gentleman and an all-round well-equipped general practitioner of medicine, had long been a prominent figure in the best medical societies of our city, and had had a distinguished career as Professor of the Practice of Medicine in Bellevue Hospital, and as a trustee and visiting physician for many other institutions. His was a cheerful, buoyant personality. As a teacher of clinical medicine he was known for the soundness of his doctrine and the clearness of his expositions.
