Howard [sic: Horace] Mallory Ruggles lived for eighty-one years [sic: eighty] and had been a sharer in our life for forty-one. He was a graduate of Union and a thoroughly trained lawyer. For a time he was Corporation Attorney of the city and most of his long life was spent in the conscientious practice of his profession at our bar. Learned and sympathetic, his friendships were not alone among his fellow-lawyers but among those who cultivated the finer arts which afforded him an ennobling avocation. He loved books and their makers, all the throes of genius he appreciated, and in his hours of ease he was nowhere more at home than in these rooms. Though he had for some years withdrawn to a New England home for quiet and repose, he kept his membership in this Club and visited his friends here as opportunity served.
