John Krom Rees was another of New York’s sons. He was but fifty-five when, after a lingering illness, during which he faced the inevitable end with a noble fortitude, he went over to the majority, his life-work well advanced but full of still higher promise. He was a graduate from two of Columbia’s schools, an astronomer of the first rank, an enthusiastic and devoted teacher of his science. His professional career began in Washington University, St. Louis, where he taught for five years, and ended in the service of his Alma Mater, where he held a chair for twenty-one, during which period exactly he was a member of this Association.
