Century Memorial
Perhaps no gentler memory is left to us than that of Thomas Mather North. He was born in 1825 at Saratoga. In 1847 he was admitted to the bar. But almost before beginning practice, he returned to Saratoga and married Miss Mary Wayland, the playmate of his boyhood. For more than sixty years they lived together, and in death they hardly were divided. Mrs. North died in February, and her husband requested that her burial be postponed till he should share in it. He wished to live no longer, and the next month he died; and they were buried in the same grave. Our old friend had practised his profession until 1896, when he retired. That was seventeen years ago; and here in this Association we remember less of his active life than of his friendly spirit.
