Benjamin Knower, though of late years not frequently at The Century, was a steadfast habitué at the old house, in 15th Street, a prominent member of a group now nearly vanished. He was a friend, in more senses than one, of the artists of the older school, and a particularly warm admirer of the art and of the rare and racy talk of Homer Martin. Mr. Knower was a grandson of the famous Albany manufacturer of the same name, one of the strongest of the members of the Albany Regency, in which he was associated with such men as Van Buren and Marcy, and the sturdy Democracy of the line suffered no dilution in the veins of the latest representative. He was also a descendant of Governor Bradford.
