One of the best known physicians of New York was Dr. Fordyce Barker, who was held in high esteem not only for his professional eminence, but also for his personal and social qualities. He was educated in the best schools at home and in Europe; occupied for many years the Chair of Professor in various medical colleges; was prominent in the various medical societies at home and abroad; was an author of acknowledged merit and a valued contributor to medical literature. He was a favorite family physician, a most graceful and genial host, a welcome guest everywhere, a student and lover of literature and music, a generous-hearted, cheerful, charming man, with a circle of friends as large as his acquaintance.
