Samuel Bancroft, Jr., amateur and collector of paintings, and a public-spirited citizen of Wilmington, Delaware, where he was devoted to the welfare of his city. He was an owner and manager of cotton mills, the chief proprietor of the Wilmington Every Evening, and at one time active in politics.
