John G. Floyd was well known as the publisher for some thirty years of the Commercial and Financial Chronicle, a journal of very high standing in its class and of influence second to none. A graduate of Rutgers and the Albany Law School, he entered the Union Army on the outbreak of the Civil War, raising a company on Long Island, following the example of his ancestor, Gen. Wm. Floyd, who had been one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and an officer in the Revolutionary War. Mr. Floyd was largely interested in the charitable work of Calvary Church.
