Century Memorial
Parmly (Parmlee in some references) was born in Vermont in 1797 and died in New York City in 1874. He was a compositor and reporter for The Canadian Courant before studying dentistry. The provost of the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, the first president of the New York College of Dentistry and a founder of the first dental periodical, the American Journal of Dental Science, Parmly led the early opposition to the use of amalgam for filling teeth. He published The Babe of Bethlehem (1861) and Thoughts in Rhyme (1867).
