Century Memorial

Montgomery Schuyler, a brilliant journalist and a writer on Architecture, became a member of the editorial staff of the World in 1868, and in 1882 joined the Times. He was the Managing Editor of Harper’s Weekly from 1885 to 1887. In late years, he contributed many articles to the Sun and the Architectural Record. In journalism, he belonged to the old school of Raymond and Hurlburt, who were not unmindful of literary grace in their newspaper work. Schuyler’s reading and memory were prodigious, as were his conversational powers. He had a host of friends in The Century, where his genial presence will not be forgotten.
