William T. Lawrence, who was one of our most esteemed members, was a son of Senator [John L.] Lawrence, the Minister to Sweden in the time of Madison, and a worthy representative of an old and distinguished New York family. He was a great favorite here; and in the old Club House was one of the most frequent habitués of the Club. Always a welcome addition to any circle, his kindly, helpful nature endeared him to a host of friends, which included nearly our entire membership.
