A Celebration of Film Director Michael Powell with Thelma Schoonmaker
Michael Powell (1905-1990) created some of the most visionary, poignant, and unforgettable movies of all time, as highlighted in the summer 2024 Museum of Modern Art retrospective and documentary Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger, featuring Martin Scorsese.
Thelma Schoonmaker – wife of the late Powell and Oscar-winning editor on the films of Martin Scorsese – appears in intimate conversation with Nancy Franklin to discuss Powell as an influence on her work with Scorsese and as an artist, collaborator, and quintessentially Centurion wit and curious mind. Accompanied by highlights from the Century archives and Powell’s own personal diaries, read by Christopher J. Eigeman.
Please note: at the request of the rightsholder, screened excerpts from the documentary Made in England are removed from the event recording. The film is currently available on a number of streaming platforms.
